Shine Bright: 8 Ways to Style Sequins for an Unforgettable Holiday Look

My favourite thing about this time of year is the absolute permission to sparkle and shine from your make-up choices to your accessories to your entire ensemble! It simply doesn't get any easier to find the ideal sparkly piece for your look this month and I've selected 8 pieces that will be PERFECT for any event this holiday season! So, let's get into it...

The skies are darker, the temps are cooler, but

we've never shined brighter!

1. Let's kick it off with these fantastic gold flare trousers adorned with silver sequins! I found these surprisingly well fitting trousers at a small independent boutique on the Cobham High Street last year this time and Second Female did them again this year, so I've featured them for you! This trouser is a pull on style with a high waist and POCKETS (yippee!!). The leg can only be described as a flare, but it's not overly accentuated and the drape is perfection. Loads of ways to rock this trouser, but for a current trend look I'd go with a shorter cozy cream knit (the fluffier the better) and a neutral pointy toed pump or bootie. Think light colours and soft textures to get the perfect high/low effect for your memorable arrival on the scene!

2. If the gold is a bit too much colour for you, I've added these black flare sequins trousers as another option. I realise that this price point could be considered an "investment" at around £200, but I would argue that the fit is quite spectacular and these will be worn year after year and will never go out of style. They make a super chic statement with either a crisp white cotton shirt buttoned down to reveal just a peek of your black bra or a fitted black satin blouse for a monochromatic approach. If you go all black, consider a red lip or some fun sparkly eye makeup to push the envelope a bit :). With the flare, always a pointy toed pump or boot as a finisher - unless it's warm enough to get your toes out where you are (LUCKY YOU!!).

3. The sequin blazer is such a vibe - especially in this gorgeous burgundy colour!!! This blazer offers one helluva lotta style as well as covering your arms (if that not your favourite body part to show), keeping you warmer on a chilly night and all whilst keeping it sexy in this moody shade of merlot. A menswear cut blazer hides a multitude of sins and your confidence can take centre stage as you enter the party/restaurant/event with a skinny black trouser and a pointed pump in either the burgundy or black patent leather. Keep the accessories simple with this one and let the jacket do all of the heavy lifting :)

4. I ADORE this little sequin shift dress for a comfy, yet super stylish, one piece wonder for dinners, holiday parties, date night or literally any event that calls for a cute dress! Let's break down a few of the ways you can rock this dress: 1.). Sheer black hosiery, black pump or flat, fab earring/clutch for the classic approach. 2.). Opaque black tights, patent chunky Mary Jane (reference my post on faux leather), a fab bright silk scarf tied around your neck and a sleek low ponytail (think retro Paris vibes). 3.). Layer the dress over a crisp white cotton shirt (collar, cuffs exposed) or a sleek black turtleneck... add opaque black tights and a black pointed kitten heel knee high boot! Take it one step further with an over the knee boot for good measure! The options are MANY with a dress like this and the sequin finishing just makes it a really special piece.

5. If you're looking to bring the sparkle but want the flexibility of many different trouser/skirt options, then this sequin blouse is the way to go! This is the quintessential wardrobe element in the "jeans and a nice top" outfit that we all reach for early and often in our wardrobes. The sparkle on this black version ups the ante for the holiday season and when paired with a wide leg leather trouser or a leather midi skirt... you are holidazzled and ready for any event. After the holidays, pair it with denim and a cool pointed heel for date night!

6. The sequin midi skirt is probably your MUST HAVE for the sequin trend in AW23. The "midiaxi" moment (a skirt length falling between the midi and the maxi on most average height women) here is spot on and the silvery white colour ticks yet another big trend box for this autumn/winter. You've got loads of options in how you'd like to show up in this skirt too: Pair with an oversized black sweatshirt and motorcycle boots for an edgy day look or a night at the pub with your mates. For something more upscale, add sheer-ish black tights, knee high boots with a pointed toe, a fitted black cashmere turtleneck and a black biker for a classically cool evening look. Both of my examples pair with black - but given that silver is now a neutral, I'm loving it with everything from cream to chocolate brown to grey, for the more monochromatic statement.

7. If you're looking for the perfect sequin accessory, rather than main clothing item, this delightful ballet flat is the perfect option! I see these on the host of a fab dinner party at home with an ankle length trouser (perhaps leather!) and a lovely silk blouse or sleeveless sweater with a high neck. Ridiculously chic, unbelievably comfortable and 100% on trend.

8. I've saved one of the best for last... The Sequin Waistcoat is the sparkly upgrade to one of the biggest trends of 2023 and it's a fantastic addition to your evening wardrobe rotation. I've seen a few different iterations of this garment on the high street, but this one from my good friend's specialty shop is cut to flatter and priced to sell out. I will wear mine with a great fitting pair of flared jeans, a velvet blazer to add warmth and texture and a high heel patent leather ankle boot for height (I max out at 5'2" when I'm standing upright!). I have always and will always LOVE a waistcoat... last year I added the black velvet version to the collection and this year, it's the sequins! Add to cart immediately as this won't stay in stock for long!!!
